If your iPhone is not receiving calls, working through these steps will help identify and resolve the most common causes.
Possible Reasons Your iPhone Is Not Receiving Calls
Step 1: Check Your Ringer
- If your iPhone has a Ringer Switch on the side, make sure it is toggled to the right so no orange is showing
- If your iPhone has an Action Button instead, open Settings > Action Button and make sure it is not set to Silent Mode
- Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics
- Make sure your Ringer & Notification Volume is turned up
Step 2: Check Do Not Disturb
- Swipe down from the top right of your screen to open Control Center
- Make sure the Do Not Disturb (crescent moon) icon is not enabled
- You can also check by going to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and making sure it is toggled Off
Step 3: Check Blocked Contacts
- Open Settings
- Tap Phone
- Tap Blocked Contacts
- Review the list to make sure the contact or contacts you are expecting calls from are not blocked
Step 4: Check Call Forwarding
- Open Control Center by swiping down from the top right (or up from the bottom on older models)
- Look for a handset with an arrow icon — if it is visible, call forwarding is active
- To turn it off, go to Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding and toggle it Off
If you have worked through all of these steps and are still not receiving calls, your issue may be carrier related — contact or visit your cellular provider for further assistance.
