My AirTag battery is dead. Can you replace it?

The good news is you can replace your Apple AirTag's battery at home with no additional tools required!

You will need a CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery for this process.

How to replace the battery in your Apple AirTag

1. Open the AirTag
Press down firmly on the polished stainless steel back of your AirTag. While pressing, rotate the cover counterclockwise until it stops.

2. Remove the Old Battery
Lift off the cover and take out the old battery.

3. Insert the New Battery
Place the new CR2032 battery into the AirTag with the positive (+) side facing up. You’ll hear a sound once it’s properly connected.

4. Reattach the Cover
Line up the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on the AirTag.

5. Lock It Back in Place
Press down and rotate the cover clockwise until it stops.

Important Safety Tip: Keep coin batteries away from children, as they can be dangerous if swallowed.
For added safety, consider using a bitterant-coated CR2032 battery (such as the Duracell 2032 Lithium Coin Battery with Bitter Coating). These are designed to discourage accidental ingestion.

Note: Some bitter-coated batteries may not work with your AirTag. Always check the packaging for compatibility with AirTag before purchasing.
