Removing a device from "Find My" is an important step for trade-ins, data recovery, or selling a device.
If the ultimate goal is data recovery, any underlying issues with software or hardware must be resolved first. Once corrected, removing a device should be possible.
If the goal is to prepare the device for repair or trade-in, you can follow the steps below to successfully remove the device from your "Find My."
Begin the Removal Process via “Find My”
- Open the Find My app
- Select Devices (second tab at the bottom)
- Scroll down and select Remove Device
- When prompted with the system warning, select Continue
- Enter your Apple ID password to proceed
If a warning message does not appear, Stolen Device Protection is not enabled, and Find My can be disabled directly through the device settings.
Finalize the Removal Process via Settings
- Open the Settings app
- Tap the Apple ID Banner with your name at the top
- Tap Find My
- Tap Find My iPhone (or Find My iPad)
- Toggle Find My iPhone OFF
- Enter the Apple ID password when prompted
- Tap Turn Off to confirm
Important Limitations:
If you do not know your Apple ID credentials, there is no workaround or bypass available. In these cases, the required one-hour security delay must be observed before attempting a reset. Even after the waiting period, a successful reset is not guaranteed.
