How to unpair an Apple Watch on iOS 26

If you’re selling your Apple Watch, switching to a new iPhone, or troubleshooting issues, unpairing your Apple Watch is an important step. The process is simple and automatically creates a backup of your watch data before it’s removed from your iPhone.

Steps to Unpair Your Apple Watch

Step 1: Open the Watch app on your iPhone
Step 2: Tap All Watches in the top-left corner
Step 3: Tap the ⓘ (info) icon next to the watch you want to unpair
Step 4: Select Unpair Apple Watch and confirm

If prompted, enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock and complete the process.

Important Notes

  • Unpairing your Apple Watch automatically backs up your data so it can be restored later
  • Your watch will reset to factory settings after unpairing
  • Menu names and layouts may vary slightly depending on your iOS version, but the steps remain largely the same across recent releases
