You can move your photos, videos, contacts, messages, and other personal data from an iPhone to a new Android device using either a wireless transfer or a cable during setup.

Requirements Before You Start

- Your Android phone must be running Android 12 or later to use the Switch to Android app. Many Android devices also support cable-based transfers, including some older versions, though Android 12 or newer provides the most complete support.
- Your iOS device must be running iOS 15 or later to transfer data wirelessly.
- A cable that can connect to your iOS device and Android device
- An internet connection

You can use a cable to transfer data during initial Android setup, and some manufacturers allow cable transfers shortly after setup is complete. Compatibility varies by device, so check your phone manufacturer’s support site if needed. If you do not have the correct cable, you may need a USB-C to Lightning cable or a USB-A to USB-C adapter depending on your devices.

Before You Begin

Make sure both devices are charged and that you can unlock your iPhone using its passcode. You may want to temporarily turn off Auto-Lock on the iPhone so the screen does not turn off during transfer. Confirm that your new Android phone has enough available storage for the data you want to move. Allow enough time for the process, as transfers can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on how much data you have. Samsung phones also support Samsung Smart Switch, which offers additional transfer options.

What Transfers to Your Android Phone

Most users can transfer photos, videos, contacts, calendars, call history, messages, voice memos, files, and some notes. Many apps will not transfer directly, but Android versions of those apps can usually be downloaded automatically from the Google Play Store during setup if they are available. Paid apps, subscriptions, and platform-specific apps may need to be reinstalled or repurchased separately.

What Does Not Transfer

Apple-exclusive apps such as iMessage and FaceTime do not transfer. App data from iOS-only apps, Apple Wallet passes, some secured files, and certain system or accessibility settings will not move to Android.

To Transfer Data:

1. Turn On Your New Android Phone
Power on the Android device and begin the setup process by tapping Start.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi or a Mobile Network
A network connection is required to sign in to a Google Account, copy apps and data, receive updates, and automatically set time and date. If you use a physical SIM card, remove it from your iPhone and insert it into the Android phone. If you use an eSIM, download it from your mobile carrier during or after setup. For SIM or carrier issues, contact your carrier directly.

3. Copy Apps and Data
You can transfer data wirelessly using the Switch to Android app on your iPhone or by connecting the two devices with a compatible cable during setup. Follow the on-screen instructions on your Android phone and approve access on your iPhone when prompted. Wired transfers generally move more data and complete faster, while wireless transfers offer convenience if a cable is unavailable.

After the transfer finishes, sign in to your Google Account, reinstall any remaining apps from the Play Store, and complete carrier and notification setup to finish configuring your new Android device!
